this week life simply got in the way of the run. where not long ago that would have bothered me, i am now determined to not let myself see these things as a training failure. the week started out well. short but solid miles and a really incredible ab workout with a cutie of a trainer. thursday sab was supposed to be at her dad’s and i was looking forward to getting in a really decent speed workout but last minute he bailed. so we used it as a training night for her. not two minutes in my garmin battery died so i was left to guess on our time and distance and i have a feeling i pushed her a little beyond what the plan called for but she did it ~ though not without some serious whining! to celebrate her continued success in pushing through we went to her favorite little greek restaurant and had a fun mommy daughter night that we rarely get to have during our hectic weeks. friday night i had two extra kids ~ a sleepover swap for saturday night ~ and there just wasn’t time to even think about a run. we spent two hours at the park with a friend and his kids. giggled all through dinner. played games. and stayed up past their bedtime ~ not to mention mine! i tentatively set my sights on early morning miles on the tread before they all awoke, but my body had other ideas and eight hours of solid sleep later this insomniac woke up smiling and feeling more rested than i have in years. saturday was filled with so much activity before sab went off to her next slumber party and i went off to my first in many years. a simple, fun night with all my runner chicks, good wine and too much food!

so though the week was light, life was good. it’s been awhile since i’ve simply let myself enjoy and laugh and not stress about everything i see as less than perfect in my world. and that is more of a success than getting in the miles.

awww, I so wish I could get my daughter out to run with me. I asked her about it the other day, and she gave me the teen “are you crazy” stare.

Sounds like you had a good week and a great weekend. Congrats on that and covering 15 miles!

i wish i had started mine earlier! at age nine she’s already got some of that “are you crazy” attitude. but i think if i do it the right way, i’ve still got a chance to make it a part of her life she’ll never want to be without.
