well i still haven’t put together a training plan for the tri. i really have no idea where to start so i suppose it’s time to ask for advice. but even though i’m just kind of winging it, i think this week was actually a decent balance of all three disciplines. my run mileage was pretty low ~ i’ve got to get my long run back  ~ but i suppose that’s going to drop as i add in the bike and the swim. i can’t forget though that there’s a 10k i’m aiming to pr in five weeks and a marathon that really isn’t that far off.

the other day sab and i got home from spending the day at a friend’s house and i realized we had little to make for dinner ~ not to mention i had NO desire to cook after sitting in the sun all day. i’m not sure what prompted her to suggest it, but as we were getting ready to leave the house to go to the grocery store, she asked if we could ride our bikes. a mile there. a mile back. not the best ride as it goes along a major road and a big intersection but she insisted. every little bit of not using gas could be our part to save the earth. i figured she would do it once and then decide to never do it again but she enjoyed the ride! since i forgot to bring a bike lock (i’m so new to this whole thing) she waited in the store lobby while i grabbed what we needed. then i piled everything into a backpack and home we went. she wants to do it more often. anywhere and everywhere we can bike. and yesterday, when we hit the gym in the morning for me to do laps before a memorial day get together, she chose not to enjoy the kids area or even free swim in the big pool but to do laps along side. she was slow. and for much of it she used a kickboard but she actually worked very hard on getting down an actual stroke. so ~ you guessed it ~ now we’re toying with the idea of her doing a tri. she wants me to get through mine first and she insists she has to be there to watch (which was my plan anyway) and then she’s going to really think about it. how cool would that be?

all in all a good week. on a personal front i’ve decided with all certainty that dating ~ or at least my lame attempts to do so ~ is completely going to be put on hold. i want my focus back. i want me back. and though i am mother, i am professional, i am friend … i am also athlete and i miss that part of me.

    Your daughter sounds like she is so motivated and has such good energy! That’s so exciting that she wants to do a tri too. It’s so easy to see how daughters will follow the examples of their Mom’s – and in this case – what a great example to follow!

    I hear you on the dating hold. Everyone around me keeps saying it and I finally get it – the most important focus should be on yourself. Once you’ve found yourself (or in a lot cases – re-found yourself) you’re ready for everything else. I’m hoping to re-find myself. Or find the new me I guess since I’m starting to think I don’t know who me ever was…

    i used to to think i knew my every little facet but lately i’m not so sure. it’s an unnerving place for me to be but i also can’t help but be intrigued. i’m really curious to see what i find out about me. i do know one thing already though … i must have done something right because i’ve got the best kid in the world ~ of course i may be a little biased 🙂

    Love when daughters take after their mamas especially when the mamas are pretty darned amazing! Congrats to Sab on the bike ride! I’ve been trying to convince myself to buy a bike because I really do like to ride, sans the sore butt! I have no idea how to buy a bike anymore…so I will be writing you for suggestions.

      awwww thanks 🙂 still so bummed we didn’t get to run together last month. hopefully soon!

      i am actually going to need to buy a bike too. i have one (a total piece o’crap) but a friend of mine is letting me use hers for the tri so i ride something decent. this way i get to make sure i really like riding before i spend the money on a new bike. there’s definitely no getting around the sore butt. though i learned quickly that padded shorts are an absolute must. just what we want as women huh? … shorts that make our butts look bigger and squishier! oh well, at least i can walk the next day!
