injured reserve list

well i have piriformis syndrome. clear and simple. but thankfully not bad. i guess stopping when i did was a good thing and may have saved myself some longer down time later. two weeks though … in addition to the one i’ve already survived. two weeks of no run. no bike. plus i’m in treatment twice a week. ultrasound, heat and massage. and of course i have to be a good patient and stretch and ice at home. and most importantly i have to behave. i can’t imagine why SR seems to think i won’t listen to him and not run 😉  i guess he knows me too well.

not long ago this would have put me in a serious funk. i need my run desperately. but i think knowing that i now have the swim, i’m ok. it’s not the same, and i’m already itching for miles, but i feel like i can easily survive the next couple of weeks without fully losing my mind or my cardio. of course it likely helps that i’m not currently in an official training schedule. yes, i had hoped to run and go sub-50 in the 4th of july 10k but i haven’t registered and can easily let that goal go. and my actual training plan for the tri doesn’t start until later this month so i’m ok there. plus it’s not like i’ll be sitting on my poor achy butt, i’ll still be swimming which is definitely the discipline i need the most work on anyway. and i’ve got the go ahead to do yoga (just have to listen to my body and not overstretch that area) and there’s always weights and my punching bag. so not all is lost and if i behave ~ which i’m going to. i promise. ~ then i should be back up and running strong soon.

I’m so sorry about your injury. 😦 My aunt has piriformis syndrome and for a couple weeks or so was in a lot of pain but massages and physical therapy seemed to help tremendously. She is great now and has been working out with a personal trainer a few times a week without any pain!

I think it’s great you have so many other physical activities you enjoy. You’re going to be an incredible swimmer now to add onto running and biking!!
