well this week was pathetic. a mere 14 miles and only two days of exercise. the ex was sick all week so he didn’t take sab at all and after  speed work monday i was feeling worse than i have in awhile so i didn’t push to find the time for miles. i do wish i had at least gotten in some strength training but sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day.

thursday i had another appointment with the new chiro. as expected, i was pretty out of whack again still. the hip. the SI. and my psoas ~ to use her words ~ was jacked up! we talked in more depth about my shoes and my orthotics and she had some thoughts there. it was about two years ago that my ortho had me start using orthotics. when i had to replace those after wear and tear the running store i went to didn’t carry the same brand so the person there watched me run in a few different ones and based on that recommended a pair. the chiro thinks that using corrective orthotics while at the same time staying in a pronation-corrective shoe (the asics gt-2100 series) could have really thrown everything off. she tested my balance while wearing my shoes with the orthotics ~ it wasn’t so good. then she tested it with the shoe without the orthotic ~ it was better. and then she had me stand on just the orthotic, no shoe ~ and it was better as well. so could the two together ~ orthotic plus shoe ~ be over supportive to the point of being counter productive?

per her request, saturday i ran without the orthotics in my shoe. i had a good run. ten miles at a 9:15 pace. faster than i’ve been running but i was also on pavement versus trails so i expected that. i did notice some discomfort starting around mile 7 or 8 ~ again could have been surface related. it wasn’t bad and i ran through it (of course) but coming off the run my ankle hurt as did the rest of my standard points of pain. i have another appointment tomorrow and we’ll see how things look and what she thinks. some of what we do going forward is going to have to be trial and error but after seven months of this, i have the time.

hopefully this week will be better on the mileage front. i was told to back off the speed work (grrrrrrr) so i guess it’s back to slug speed. but i’d rather be a slow runner than no runner at all.

I have had the same issues with my hip and psoas and back. I have just stopped running but still have some tightness. All I can say is I know what you are going through and it sucks!
