my head is stuck in the clouds

there’s  a guy i’ve been emailing with on match for a few weeks. i’d almost written him off given his lack of initiating a date but a week or so ago he wrote stressing his continued interest and hoping i could understand and be patient. seems he just moved here about a month ago and the move was some what spur of the moment. he’s been living with friends waiting for his apartment to be ready. and the job he had been contracted for has been high time demanding. i’m not really a patient person but given how cute he was and the fact that we seemed to have a lot in common, i figured i wouldn’t delete him quite yet. so late last week when i found myself with a slight change of weekend plans and the nyc girl already lined up to watch my kid, i decided to take destiny by the balls and put him on the spot to finally make time to go out with me. i was nicely surprised that he readily agreed and seemed to find humor in my “shit or get off the pot” attitude about the whole thing.

saturday after he finally escaped the office we met at a local dining district. with a mix of bars and restaurants we figured we’d find something that worked for us both. he got there before i did and quickly picked my favorite place ~ a tapas style restaurant with fabulous food! an outdoor courtyard table and a beautiful night set the scene for dinner and drinks, no lack for conversation and more laughing than i’ve done in ages. after dinner we ended up in a dueling piano bar where we had the most fun simply people watching. the best being the bride to be and her entourage celebrating the last of freedom and waving large pink penises. i can’t even begin to tell you the jokes and conversation that led to! he’s hilarious! absolutely adorable. and ~ since it is important to me ~ to say he’s a runner is an understatement. with a race repertoire that includes 30 marathons and literally hundreds of tris ~ including a handful of full ironmans ~ he’s in incredible shape but is far from obsessive about training. it’s nothing for him to decide to run a marathon days before and apparently even went out to run a half once and decided mid way through that he felt so good he would run the full just for fun. so before the night was through we’d planned date two. he’s going to run the half marathon with me this sunday. and there’s actually talk of him trying to slip out of work early tomorrow to join me for the irish run. i really don’t like to get swept up in the hopes and dreams of maybes but my head is in the clouds over this one and i can’t seem to come down.

meantime, the knight surprised me by offering to cook me dinner on friday night. he’s running the mic ultra challenge this weekend ~ the 5k and 15k on saturday then the half marathon and 8k on sunday ~ so i really figured he’d be off the date book this weekend but with friday as my only available he didn’t hesitate to pencil me in. honestly, i’d really much rather focus on the ironman and i feel pretty certain that things with the knight are nothing more than physical, but i don’t want to put all my eggs in one basket. so i’m going to just take it all one day at a time and have fun! let’s just hope we don’t all end up pacing side by side on sunday. that could be 13.1 miles of definite sitcom material!

When it rains, it pours right?? 🙂

Oh, any recommendations for a good pre-race dinner? I’m waivering between pizza, pasta, or something healthier. I’ve been to Tampa before, but it was about 6 years ago!

i know i read it in one of your posts but remind me where you’re staying? berninis in ybor city has really good pizza and i’m sure the rest of their food is delicious as well. maggiano’s over by the westshore mall is pretty good as well though a bit of a typical italian chain for my taste. there’s also a pizza place in channelside (right by downtown) called precinct pizza that i’ve heard is really good but i’ve never been there. i’m crazy particular when it comes to pre-race meals and always cook at home! especially after getting food poisoning the night before i ran the gasparilla full last year. there’s nothing fun about running a marathon after being up all night puking your guts out!

Ironman sounds amazing! I’m excited to hear more, especially now that you’re juggling two!
