not the best week ever. as i said last week, i hate hitting anything under 20 miles. but at least this week i got in a decent ride and did the fight for air stair climb ~ a 42-flight climb to the top of a building downtown. saturday was supposed to be a 14 miler which would have put me over the 20 mile mark but b3 ended up sick and had to cancel an hour before our run. so i last minute rushed to meet the group for a sunrise run along the bay. most were only doing 5 since they had run long saturday but i found one guy willing to go 10 with me. i thought about putting in the extra four on my own but once the sun came up it was pretty hot and humid and my body wasn’t feeling so good ~ likely from climbing 42 flights of stairs the day before ~ so i settled for 10.

thursday i did my first full mile in my vibrams. the first quarter mile or so felt very strange but i settled into a nice rhythm and i thought about going longer in them but really need to break them in slowly especially given my issues. it’s easy to feel the difference in muscle use while wearing them. my calf muscles weren’t quite sure what hit them! after croom i’ll start bringing them out to the trails. there’s a short loop i can do before our regular route that will give me time in but bring me back to the car to swap to regular shoes for the longer mileage until i get to where i can do more. i also think sometime this week i am going to go look into newtons. i’m not happy with the gel landreth. well that’s not exactly true. i like them. but with the pci in, i’m still blistering. and if i’m going in the direction of chi running then i may as well do it all the way and everyone from b3 to the chiro to coachD has suggested i try that route. yes they are expensive. but if there’s a chance it will help the body i need to try.

not sure what the week ahead is going to be. i’ve got so much going on. but i’m looking forward to thursday when  i’m going to see the movie my run with the ironman. it looks like such an amazing story! and right now i can use all the inspiration i can get.

i can’t wait to try the vibrams on trails! somehow i think it will not just physically, but mentally, connect me to my run in a different way.

A week with 17 miles running, 18 biking and FORTY-TWO flights of stairs sounds like a pretty good week. I know it’s frustrating to be hitting under 20 but your miles are really starting to add up since the start of 2011, and your weeks really do sound better and better.

I’m seeing My Run on Thursday too, it looks amazing!

you’re right. things are improving (in spite of the fact that i’m really NOT improving) so i need to be happy that i’m getting in decent mileage. i just want more!

so cool you are going to see my run thursday also! i can’t wait!
