the house hunter

last night i went out with the house hunter. to avoid the awkward interview-style first date, he had suggested we do something a little more active than just dinner or drinks ~ pool or bowling maybe ~ and after some back and forth banter about how bad we both are, we had decided bowling was bound to be good for some serious humor. there’s an alley in a local bar district that offers up a little more class than the typical and we agreed to meet there.

he was waiting when i got there ~ punctuality gets huge points in my book ~ and the first laugh was over the fact that we were dressed to match. both in a dark wash jeans and wearing yellow shirts with navy designs (his stripes, mine a very subtle flower). he was as attractive as i had remembered from our brief meeting. clean cut yet goatee-scruff sexy. built but not meat-head muscle. and those icy blue eyes … yum. we sat for awhile. just talking. getting to know a little more about each other. work talk. divorce details. kid stories. i guess we did the first-date interview after all but there was nothing awkward about it. he was easy to talk to and there was a comfort level that made me feel we were three dates ahead. eventually we decided we needed to follow through with the plan and make fools of ourselves so we donned the not-so-sexy bowling shoes and took over a lane. as expected it was pretty hilarious. we weren’t bumper bad, but the gutter balls and spare misses were definitely comedic.

before the date we had joked around with the idea of a bet on the bowling but neither of us had come up with anything. i think it was a bit hard to find something fun and creative without knowing if we were going to click but by the end of the first game it was pretty apparent that we did. so the wager became loser cooks the winner dinner. seemed like a perfect way to guarantee a second date. and as competitive as i can be i couldn’t seem to care less if i won or not. it was just fun. every moment of it.

i love the feeling of anticipation when you know you want to kiss someone for the first time. the subtle little body language hints. nervousness. do you wait for the goodnight awkward or go for it. about half way through the second game ~ which i lost by the way ~ he was sitting on a stool and i was standing in front of him talking smack about my strike and mid-sentence he simply locked eyes with me, put his hands on either side of my face, and shut me up 😉

we followed up bowling with a couple games of pool. really more of an attempt to prolong the night then really play. but eventually had to accept that it was getting late and end the evening. there is no doubt i’ll see him again but we face a challenge. he does 50/50 custody of his girls with his ex and his schedule is the exact opposite of mine. every single night that he’s free, sab is home with me. to even make last night happen i had to swap a night with my ex and that’s something we won’t always be able to do. but i have a wager to pay up and i never back out of a debt.
