the week of may 22nd was a six-mile bust given the chaos of my mom’s visit and various other commitments so this past week i was determined to try and get back to the grind. though not up to distance or cross-training par, i did get in close to the type of schedule i’m hoping to maintain ~ three days run, two days cross training. ideally i’d like to hit three cross training and have only friday as a down day but i’m happy with five days a week of exercise.

the ride with sab on thursday really can’t count as much of a workout but at least i’m taking exercise where i can rather than brushing off minimal as being unworthy. it’s been so easy to find excuses ~ i’m tired from the double commute, the weather is MISERABLY hot and humid, there’s too much to do around the house. all valid yet not worth the way i feel when i forgo a workout. i need to realize that i can push through. and when i do, i feel better for it. sunday i was exhausted. this weekend we celebrated the hunter’s 40th birthday ~ blog to come ~ and by the time we got home from the beach on sunday i was ready to plop my sun kissed burnt body into my arm chair and not move. but i knew i needed something after a weekend of excessive food and drink so i headed to the pool. it’s been months since i’ve swam. somehow i just gave it up. quit. dropped the tri plan and fell back to the basic run. so i wasn’t sure how far i could manage. but i pulled an easy mile. a solid swim that left me feeling confident that it’s time to quit with the excuses and tri.

celebrating the hunter’s birthday made me realize how quickly that huge milestone will creep up on me. 39 is a mere 11 days away and after that it’s just a countdown. where the hunter was freaked out by turning 40 i try to look at it as a positive ~ five minutes added to my boston qualifying time sure can’t hurt 🙂 ~ and i know exactly how i want to celebrate!

screw 40 … i’m jumping right to 70.3 😉

and even though it’s a little earlier than i want, i’m thinking this might be the one

        It’s soo tempting…

Your post absolutely motivated me. I need to get back to swimming too! I will say, I 100% prefer the pool but nothing compares to the open water swims. Eeek stay from away from any water with sharks, alligators or crocs!

C’mon, kitkat! Do it!! I’ll come to cheer both of you on!

that’s what sucks … there really isn’t any water down here WITHOUT sharks or alligators. i guess i just have to choose the lesser of evils and swim fast enough that i don’t become some creature’s dinner.

Woah. I lived in St. Croix for a brief time. Back when I was young enough to steal rum and cokes, go topless, wear mens underwear and look cute doing it! LOL
