last week was

monday 8 mile run ~ the flats with the governor
tuesday off
wednesday off
thursday 1 mile pool swim ~ untimed
friday off
saturday  10 mile run ~ tc trails with the thinker, the drill sergeant and the governor
sunday 30 mile ride ~ suncoast solo

totals
swim 1 mile  bike 30 miles  run 18 miles

this past week wasn’t horrible on total milage. i really can’t allow myself three down days but life has a way of throwing in curves. wednesday was supposed to be a mid-length bike but sab’s ice skating coach had a last minute cancellation and we needed the lesson time. we’ve been piecing together a schedule ever since she went from group to private but after this past week it finally looks as though we’ve secured the friday evening slot which is ideal for my workout schedule as i like to take fridays down or only do a light workout knowing that saturday morning is my long run.

i made extra effort this week to run with the governor. she’s one of the few women in my group who i pace right with and i’m really trying to find more female running partners so the hunter doesn’t feel uncomfortable. but running with her isn’t really convenient. monday i went into work late and worked late so i could meet her at the flats which is out by my office. she doesn’t get off work until later than i do and given my schedule is flexible i adjusted but i had to get someone to come let the dog out and it was almost 8 p.m. by the time i got home. hated it. the saturday run however was ideal. seems there are a few of us that like starting earlier than the normal group 7 a.m. start so we hit the trails at 6 a.m. there really is nothing more amazing than running in moonlit woods. we all had headlamps as an extra precaution but they were almost unnecessary given the full moon.

sunday i headed up to the suncoast trail for the first time. i needed a longer ride route and it goes for miles and miles ~ 41.3 end to end to be exact ~ so a 30-mile ride was barely a dent in the 82 mile distance i likely will never do. i wish i had had company but the ironman rides crazy hills on sundays ~ something i’m not ready for ~ and the euro was out of town. but i suppose in some ways it was nice to escape solo.

my swim was simple. just the gym. just a mile. it’s not a sport i love by any means. i’m starting to worry freak out about the dunedin tri swim. the ocean really leads to panic. i know i should get in an open-water swim prior. but no way i’d go that alone and i can’t fit the ironman’s tri group workout into my schedule. or maybe i’m making excuses to not do so. i really don’t think the race should be my first experience so it’s got to be  priority in the next couple of weeks.

overall my body is semi-cooperating. the pain in my knee isn’t really subsiding and my hip and si are acting up a lot. it’s the knee i’m worried about. i think hope it’s just muscular and stemming from the other issues but i’m not sure it’s not more. the yankee has suggested i get films but i’m not ready to admit those might be needed. for now i’m just going to keep up on the massage and the pt and cross my fingers. maybe not the best approach but typical me.

21 weeks to augusta. let the countdown begin.

Get in the open water! Seriously, the one thing that will help the pre-swim panic on the day of will be knowing you were in the open water before.

Your training sounds great so far – especially with the schedule adjusting. When I first read your last sentence I thought it said 21 days until Augusta!
