1,000 miles to go

i don’t think i’ve mentioned that i’m running a 50k this saturday. how is it that i used to get crazy nervous and have to prepare ~ mentally and physically ~ for something as little as a half marathon and now i barely even bat an eyelash at the fact that i’m about to run my second ultra?! granted it’s just a 50k. a far cry from the 50 miler i  did earlier this year but it’s still an ultra. oh and i have another one mid-march. and i’m almost sure i’m doing the fool’s 50 miler again in late march right before i head to georgia for ragnar trail atlanta the first weekend in april.

sometimes i wonder when i became this runner. the one who goes out and runs 42 mile just to pace a friend. the one who doesn’t worry about sleep or nutrition or much of anything before an average saturday 15. i’ll never forget the first words out of my mouth when i crossed the finish line of my first half … ” i am NEVER doing that shit again!” my how things have changed.

running saved me. from what i’m not completely sure but i know that without it i wouldn’t be the woman that i am today. i wouldn’t have the strength and confidence i do. or the friends i’ve found along the trails. and not to mention the “runner’s butt” i went in quest of and can happily say i earned! but one thing i still don’t have is a 1,000 mile year! plagued by aches, pains and injury i’ve never reached that milestone. and though i don’t make resolutions, i will make goals; 1,000 in 2014. this year it’s mine!

Good luck! 1,000 miles isn’t that hard actually (i’m well over that for the year) – UNLESS you get hurt and can’t train. You can have some zero or single digit weeks, but not many of them (I had a few). Its not even 20 mile per week average. Figure one longish run on a weekend plus a mid-week run will get you that. Between just Zoom, Fools, and Ragnar, you’ll be 10% of the way there!

i was well on target the first few months of this year but then had two months down after the fools run. honestly there’s probably still a chance i hit it this year but i stopped logging all my miles and won’t claim to have done something i can’t prove to myself.

i’ve also got at least one full marathon i know i’m doing and the potential of my first hundred late in the year … maybe i should skip one thousand and go for two! lol
